Artist Profile: Arvid Choudhury (HVBR)

Overview
Raleigh-based mixed-media artist Arvid Choudhury (HVBR) layers turmeric, henna, milk, incense ash, and other Bangladeshi–Latino household materials onto raw canvas treated as “skin,” confronting suffocation, systemic violence, and the immigrant experience in America. His ongoing American Other series—fifty hand-worked pieces begun after George Floyd’s murder—melds sculpture and painting, letting weather, spice markets, and site-specific finds physically inscribe questions of identity, erasure, and resistance.
