Overview
Jiayin Guo’s work blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary storytelling, using fabric and dye as mediums for introspection. An Elephant Sitting Still is a symbolic long-scroll piece created with handwoven fabric and batik dyeing techniques. Inspired by Hu Qian’s novella, the artwork explores themes of love, loss, obsession, and healing, unfolding as a quiet meditation on emotional dualities. Guo’s use of plant-based dyes, sourced during her residency in Guizhou, further enhances the piece’s organic, timeworn texture, connecting past and present through layered symbolism.
