Artist Profile: Jordan Segal

Overview:
Jordan Segal is a New York-based mixed media artist whose practice confronts political, social, and emotional realities through layered, sculptural forms. Drawing from influences like Alberto Burri and Judith Scott, Segal manipulates surfaces with a raw physicality—sanding, wrapping, staining, and engraving—to build works that balance between figuration and abstraction. His visual language evokes a dark, poetic interiority, channeling unrest, resilience, and transformation. With deep ties to NYC’s creative community, Segal sees Bushwick Gallery’s Studio Summer residency as a platform to further evolve his sculptural “creatures” using sustainable materials, while sharpening his engagement with themes of waste, decay, and the political tensions of the present.
