Overview
Levi Japhet is a Peruvian-born artist whose practice spans oil painting and experimental filmmaking. Raised in Lima and now based in Brooklyn, Japhet uses narrative as a foundation to explore memory, queerness, and urban life. With a background in architecture, their work is rooted in spatial tension—how place informs identity, movement, and feeling.

Drawing influence from poetic realism and expressionist traditions, Japhet blends humor, grit, and emotional rawness. Each painting captures fleeting moments with layered depth—stories that hover between the surreal and the lived. Through oil paint and a writing-led process, Japhet constructs worlds full of longing, distortion, and tenderness.
