Overview
Natalja Heybroek is a Dutch-Scottish artist based in Toronto whose interdisciplinary practice draws from philosophy, biology, and visual art. Her work challenges conventional media by incorporating organic and reactive substances—most notably, iridescent bacteria suspended in epoxy—to create living, evolving compositions.

In Rooted Morality, Heybroek explores the intersection of identity, growth, and perception through a microscopic lens. The piece’s organic shimmer and layered translucence evoke biological processes and shifting belief systems, prompting viewers to reflect on how morality is rooted, shaped, and transformed over time. Her practice invites a deeper inquiry into the invisible systems—biological, social, and emotional—that define who we are and how we relate to the world around us.
